The element Cobalt which is naturally occurring in this type of Calcite produces the most electric pink colors. Sometimes referred to as Cobalt bearing, Cobalto Calcite or Cobaltoan Calcite, this is a special variety of Calcite. Regular Calcite has a chemical formula of CaCO3, but Cobalt bearing calcite is (Ca,Co)CO3, where the Co2+ (Cobalt) replaces some of the Calcium.
