1 Dinar, Libya, Gaddafi Africa The coins carry the name1 Dinar Libyan banknote, issued in 2004 (pre revolution), featuring Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. The reverse of the note carries an image of a mosque in Tripoli. This was a smaller note compared to the earlier series, from the 1990s with some changes to the design. Gaddafi was a colonel in the Libyan army, and came to power after overthrowing King Idris in a coup in 1969. He nationalized Libya's oil industry, which brought prosperity to the country.
