The regiment is part of the Royal Armoured Corps and is paired with the Royal Yeomanry. The Queen's Dragoon Guards was formed in 1959 by the amalgamation of the 1st King's Dragoon Guards and the 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays). The regiment has seen service in Lebanon, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. The Colonel in chief is the Prince of Wales.
